Summer Reading for 2010-2011
Academics

Dear SJD Students,
Here's your summer reading assignment.  Get yourself a copy of the book (any edition will do), and bring it to school on the first day next August.  These are tales of love, adventure, war, guilt, sadness, and heartbreak.  Read them deeply, and read them thoroughly.  Show up next August ready to talk about the life and the story.  Note: there will also be a test on every book in the first week of the year.

AP English Literature (Seniors):
The Odyssey by Homer
** Note: Please be sure to get an edition translated by Robert Fitzgerald

White Teeth by Zadie Smith

English IV (Seniors):
Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell

AP English Language (Juniors):
Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck

Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott

** Ms. Maclean will distribute the additional assignments for AP English Literature

English III (Juniors):
The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien

English II (Sophomores):
The Life of Pi by Yann Martel

English I (Freshmen):
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
