HOW THE CORPORATE WORK STUDY PROGRAM WORKS
The Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) at San Juan Diego provides students with professional experience and subsequent career possibilities, while offering the opportunity to earn part of the tuition for their college-preparatory education.
Each student is part of a team of four students who share one full-time entry-level position in the corporate world. The four students who make up a team rotate daily during the 10-month work agreement period. Each student works five 8-hour days per month. Companies pay $22,000 for the students’ services, and the earnings offset tuition costs at the school. San Juan Diego handles all human resource issues, including workers’ compensation, Social Security, Medicare and tax withholding.
Students develop practical job skills and experience in a variety of industries including law, health care, technology, education, real estate, finance and non-profit services. In addition, students are supported in the program through an intensive summer training program and personal coaching administered by CWSP staff.
In the training program of the workshops, students learn about first impressions, professionalism, communication, teamwork, business etiquette and confidentiality. Training continues throughout the year, and CWSP staff remain in constant contact with employers to evaluate students and the program. Students are formally reviewed on their performance four times per year.
