Summer School Rules and Procedures
Attendance: Only ONE day of excused absence from each class will be allowed. Students who acquire more than one absence from a class will have to make up any additional missed periods on a Saturday during the Summer session.
Tardiness: Students are to be in their seats when the second bell rings at 8:30am. Students tardy to one or more class will be assigned a consequence.
Disciplinary Expectations and Procedures: The standard classroom policies as stated in the SJDCHS handbook, including the Zero-Tolerance Drug policy, General Behavior policies, the Food, Drink and Gum policy, and the school’s normal Disciplinary Procedures are in effect.
Closed Campus: NO STUDENT IS ALLOWED OFF CAMPUS. Serious disciplinary consequences, including immediate dismissal from the summer school program, may be incurred if a student is caught off campus. As usual, all visitors must sign in at the school office as soon as they arrive on campus.
Dress Code: Appropriate dress for summer includes the following: boys may wear short-sleeved shirts or polos. Boys can wear nice jeans or shorts. No athletic shorts will be allowed. Girls may wear short-sleeved shirts. Mid-calf capris are acceptable. Girls may not wear shorts or skirts that fall above the knee. Tank tops, spaghetti straps or shirts or pants with rips/holes and any item with offensive slogans are prohibited. Any variation from this dress code will results in students being sent home for the day.
Lunch: 12:00pm to 12:30pm. Students must stay on campus during Lunch. No lunch services will be provided; students must bring their own lunches. Lunch will be eaten in Room 1A or at the picnic tables only. Parents who wish to bring lunch for their students must bring it to the front office. Students will not be able to go outside to get their lunches.

Conditioning (the whole month of June), Tuesday May 30 - Monday, June 29, 8:00am - 10:00am.
This opportunity is open to all students interested in getting in shape over the summer. This will take place outdoors on the SJD campus. Students should come dressed in appropriate and modest workout gear (no sleeveless attire is allowed). If you cannot attend the whole month, sign-up for week-long sessions! [1st week: Tuesday, May 30 - Friday, June 2. All other weeks, Monday - Thursday.]
Games Camp (one week), Tuesday - Friday, May 30 - June 2, 10:00am - 12:00pm.
During this camp, students will engage with peers in chess, video, and board games of their choice.
Service Camp (one week), Monday - Thursday, June 5 - June 8, 10:00am - 2:00pm. Location TBA.
During this camp, students will earn 16 hours of service if they complete all days. They will learn about service and Catholic Social Teaching.
Music Camp (2 days per week all of June), Tuesday & Thursday, June 6 - June 29, 1:00pm - 3:00pm.
Students will choose their musical instruments, learn, and explore at their own pace, under the guidance of a professional musician, Jan Flemming.
Art Camp (one week), Monday - Thursday, June 12 - June 15, 10:00am - 12:00pm.
Led by Mr. Hyde. Students will learn how to design simple art through woodworking, painting, and straw appliqué.
Virtual Reality Camp (one week), Monday - Thursday, June 19 - June 23, 8:30am - 12:00pm.
Led by Ms. Reyna. Virtual Reality 101: Learn about code by editing virtual reality projects on Thimble! Design your very own VR scenes and bring them to life using Google cardboard headsets. The headsets are about $15 each.
Softball (2 weeks), Monday - Thursday, June 12 - June 22 and June 26 - June 29, 9:00am - 12:00pm.
Led by Ms. Cortinas. Students will improve their game and increase game skills and knowledge in a fun environment.
Academic Classes, Monday - Friday, June 1 - June 28, 8:30 am - 3:00pm (lunch 12:00pm - 12:30pm).
There are two academic classes being offered this summer. English: If a student has failed English with less than 70 cumulative average in English, they must enroll in English for credit recovery. Geometry: If a freshman has an 85 or above cumulative average in Math, and good teacher recommendations, they may enroll in Geometry Advanced Track.
